The Electronic Solar Switch (ESS) is the photovoltaic circuit interruption device: when correctly inserted, it maintains the DC connection between the PV generator and inverter, while its removal allows subsequent disconnection of the DC connectors. SMA documentation confirms the use of the ESS on various inverter families, including Sunny Boy and Sunny Mini Central.
The photographed board is complete with ESS connector, wiring, power and control components, fuse, and protection circuits and is therefore a functional component of the DC disconnect assembly, not simply an electronic control board.
