📝 Description
New product. The Steca Solsum 8.0c is a PWM photovoltaic solar charge controller for small OFF-GRID solar systems, designed for systems with a 12 V or 24 V battery. The photographed model is directly identifiable by the front marking Solsum 8.0c. The Solsum C series uses shunt-type PWM regulation and automatically recognizes the nominal system voltage when connected to the battery.

☀️ Function in the Photovoltaic System
The Solsum 8.0c is installed between the photovoltaic module, battery and DC loads. It regulates the current from the panel to keep the battery within the correct charging levels, limiting the risk of overcharging.
The controller automatically recognizes whether the system operates at 12 V or 24 V through the battery connection. The series also features temperature compensation, protection against reverse polarity, short circuits, module overvoltage and overheating.
🔋 Connections and Front Indicators
The front panel provides connections for:
- photovoltaic module;
- battery;
-
DC load.
There are 6 terminals, arranged in three pairs for the system connections. The front also features a battery status indication using a red / yellow / green scale, with red = empty, yellow and green = full.
The series uses two light indicators to display battery charging, state of charge and operating conditions.
🛡️ Protection and Safety
The controller integrates several electronic protections, including battery overcharge, reverse polarity, module and load short circuit, PV input overvoltage, overheating and reverse current during the night.
The 8.0c model does not have the LVD function for automatic disconnection of a deeply discharged battery, which is instead provided on some other variants of the Solsum C family, such as 6.6c, 8.8c and 10.10c.
Do not connect panels or batteries before verifying the polarity and system voltage. Batteries can provide very high currents in the event of a short circuit.
🏭 Applications
Suitable for small off-grid photovoltaic systems, standalone solar systems, DC lighting, small battery-powered loads, educational systems and applications requiring 12/24 V DC and current up to 8 A.
The device is particularly suitable for low-power systems: Steca documentation indicates the Solsum family as a solution for solar home systems with module powers up to approximately 240 Wp, depending on the model and configuration.
